ROAD TRIP!!!! They were words that defined my college experience as my best friends and I headed to ski towns and hiking spots all over the western US with the kind of regularity that our grades often reflected!
This time it is my fabulous husband and I (along with Pickle!) loading up the car for a little adventure of our own! Milder in many ways than my trips of old (we have more than 15 bucks & a couple of snowboards between us this time!), it is our first real step toward our coming move to Maine and we are so excited to begin the journey in earnest!
We are beginning our travels in Hollis, New Hampshire, the idyllic small town that Justin grew up in, visiting with his parents and connecting with old friends. Hollis is everything I imagine when I picture the quintessential New England town…old farmhouses with rustic barns, miles of piled stone walls, gnarled apple trees in orchard after orchard…I just love it there! I always feel lucky to have married into such a “hometown”!
Friday we are headed up to Franconia Notch, New Hampshire, to attend the wedding of Sara + Dave at the Sunset Hill House inn! Sara is a close childhood friend of Justin’s and has asked me to photograph her wedding rehearsal. I’m honored and excited to do so, and can’t wait for the wedding on Saturday! It’s exciting and strange to be attending a wedding as a guest rather than as the photographer and I’m looking forward to sitting back and enjoying the festivities of two people as wonderful as Sara + Dave! Franconia is located in the White Mountains and I’ve been craving mountains like crazy since doing Rachel’s Trash the Dress session in the Smokies a few weeks ago! I am ridiculously pumped to get up there for a few days!!
After Sara + Dave’s wedding in Franconia, we are planning to return to Hollis and spend a few days catching up with people and enjoying some side trips…a duck boat ride in Boston, maybe a hike at Mt. Monadnock…before heading up to Portland, Maine! I can’t begin to convey how excited I am to start looking around at neighborhoods and deciding where we want to live when we move up this spring! Should we settle in Portland proper? South Portland? What about Cape Elizabeth? Advice, my friends! We need advice and opinions! If you have any recommendations for us, we’d really love some great places to start looking…this will likely be our last scouting trip before we sell our house!
We are also looking forward to running the Westport Island Shore Run, a 10k on Westport Island, Maine that benefits the local volunteer fire department. I am in solid 4 mile shape at the moment, so this might get interesting, but it gives me an excuse not to neglect my running on vacation! Not to mention, I have always felt like I get the best overview of a place when I run some sort of race through it…race directors are great at taking you through the prettiest parts of their location!
From Portland, we’ll touch down briefly one more time in Hollis and then it’s back to North Carolina for us! I’m so excited about all of the travel and photographing I will be doing, both professional and personal, so keep an eye out and I will update as often as possible (I have no idea what my internet access will be like!). If you are interested in meeting up while we’re in New England, let me know- I’d love to carve out time! We’ll be there August 13-25…
Also coming soon, Katrina + Alex’s wedding at the Virginia Living Museum (what a cool venue!) and Kristina + Russell’s fabulous Richmond wedding (their reception was in a photography gallery!) ! I promise to get some previews up asap! 🙂
