A Quick Fix

“The wild begins where you least expect it- one step off your normal course.” ~Bernard Malamud

I’ve had a bone deep craving for the wild places lately, a need for the fecund scent of moss-covered timber and cold moving water running over my toes. I don’t have time right now to pull on my backpack and find the days of solitude and birdsong that I so desperately want, but we are lucky enough to live in a place where our daily runs happen on winding wooded trails and access to more is just a short drive down the road.

I’m also lucky enough to be married to someone who also craves the wild and remote and who is more than happy to load up with my restless heart for a day of tromping around in the woods when a quick fix is all we have time for…

Anyone else feeling a need for a little wild lately? Is it summertime, do you think, or just our inherent natures?

Ali- it was so funny…she was playing around at the edge and stepped off into deep water that she wasn’t expecting…that was the look she had the entire time she swam back to the edge!ReplyCancel

Beautiful pictures you two. Make me hungry for a hike.

I have a question that is sort of off-topic tho… you have a front clipping harness on your pup. Do you like it? Does it keep her from pulling? Are there any negative issues with it?ReplyCancel
