There is no appropriate way to begin this post without a confession and apology for the 2014 Challenge! While the team did just amazingly (raising more than $4000!!), I, personally dropped the proverbial ball when it came to organization and support and then rounded out my failure as a captain by getting stuck in an airport across the big blue sea and missing the entire event! Yikes. I cannot begin to express my gratitude to everyone who participated and rallied those donations despite my shortcomings and I am overwhelmed again and again by just how amazing the people I get to call “clients” really are!

The 2015 Dempsey Challenge.

It’s ON. And I am ready to make up for last year’s slack like you wouldn’t believe!

In case you missed why this event has come to pass and why it’s so important to me to contribute in a real and tangible way to the phenomenal Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing, take a look at this post from 2013. My own history with cancer and the many stories I’ve been touched by over the years has me convinced that there is a real need being met by the Center. It shouldn’t cost a dime to get the support needed to cope with all of the ways cancer affects a person’s life beyond the fact of illness. From reiki to nutrition to support groups to simply being a place of understanding and restfulness, the Center offers an incredible array of integrative medicine and services to all those affected in any way, be them patients, survivors, family, friends, co-workers, or neighbors. And they offer that array absolutely free of charge.

Over the last two years, Team Cuppa has raised nearly $10,000 to help keep the Center able to continue to offer free services to those in need and I am asking you now to consider doing it a third time with me.

A few helpful things:

(1) If you are a Cuppa client, this is an amazing opportunity to earn yourself some free product credit! By joining Team Cuppa (either as an active member or a “virtual” one), I will match each and every dollar you raise for the team with a dollar of product credit to use toward prints, albums, etc! It’s a win-win proposition! Want a wedding album? Join the team and get to fundraising and you could earn yourself a beautiful handcrafted album’s worth of credit!

(2) You can join Team Cuppa or make a donation right here or find us on the general Dempsey Challenge website!

(3) The Dempsey Challenge will take place this year on the Saturday and Sunday of October 17-18. If you join the team, please feel free to sign up for any of the events that you are interested in participating in and I promise you a support crew to cheer you along (as well as having hot coffee and snacks when you’re done!)!

(4) I will be hosting a Team Cuppa s’mores bonfire get together on Saturday, October 10th from 5-9pm! There will be snacks, drinks, plenty of s’mores fixin’s as well as info and goody-bags for the event! Mark your calendars now and plan to bring your kiddos for a little pre-event fun!

Thank you again for all of the support this community has given this project over the last two years! It’s been just phenomenal and utterly humbling and I am just more grateful than I can begin to find words for! You guys are awesome.

A little more than a year ago, I began to wonder. I wondered if it always really made sense to share some of my random thoughts here on what is, really, a wedding and family portrait site. I wondered where things like my travel photography fit in and the bits of editorial and stock. I wondered how to accommodate the amazing people who approached me about purchasing some of my travel images for display in their own homes. I wondered what it might look like to create a landing place for not only my “other” photography, but the rest of my passions and the writing that I’ve wanted to share here, but seemed out of place.

So I began to brainstorm. And sketch out ideas. I drove Justin batty as I attempted to articulate what I wanted to build, repeating and honing concepts off the sounding board of his endlessly patient ear. When I began to have a general, but increasingly concrete  vision in mind, I reached out to Kelsy Stromski of Refinery 43. You may remember Kelsy’s drop-dead-unbelievably-stunning wedding, but what you may not have realized is that she is a brilliant, creative, intuitive, and simply all-around amazing designer and branding consultant.  Long before any signs of a logo began, there were illuminating discussions as Kelsy pushed me to refine my vision over and over, until I had clearly defined what was at the heart of this endeavor. That process was unbelievably rewarding in and of itself!

And so.

Here we are.

Launch day.

I am shaking in my proverbial {winter!} boots as I put this new baby out into the world. Head over to the new site if you’d like to see what all this fuss was about, what all these months of work have built. I hope you’ll hang out for a minute and spend a little time checking things out.

There’s a new blog and that is where I’ll be posting with much greater frequency from this point forward. But don’t worry, Cuppa isn’t going anywhere!

Cuppa will continue to feature my wedding and portrait photography. My packages and process haven’t changed with the exception that I will be posting far less frequently to this site. Over the next few months, I will likely be honing in on the places on this site that could use a bit of improvement and look forward to providing a better user experience here.

In the meantime, I hope you’ll pour yourself a fresh cuppa and join me as I launch into this next chapter! I’m so, so, SO appreciative of the unwavering support you guys have shown me all these years! Without it, I’m not sure that this small dream would have had the space to take root.

Thank you!

I will be out of my office from December 7 through December 14! I will be attending a silent meditation retreat, so all communication will be on hold until my return! I beg your patience while I’m gone and will be sure to get back to you as soon as I return! To get a hilarious picture of what I’ve decided to put myself through this week, check out Torre Deroche’s post on her 10-day vipassana retreat!

But I don’t want to leave you all empty handed for the week, so I have a little present for you! From this Wednesday to next, all prints ordered through your Smugmug galleries are 20% off using the coupon code below!

Have a WONDERFUL week!!!

You may remember Kelsy and Kevin’s stunning wedding last summer at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens…it was gorgeous! The images from that amazing day have appeared in Real Maine Weddings Magazine, Maine Invites You 2014 Maine wedding guide, Catersource’s Nov/Dec 2013 Celebrations issue, as well as numerous ads! Well, they’ve been featured again, this time on one of my very favorite blogs!! I am so excited and honored to see Kelsy and Kevin’s wedding featured on Well Wed:

Be sure to check out the full post here! Thank you again, Kelsy & Kevin for creating such an incredible day!

India. Oh India.

It was utterly crazy and completely incredible. Overwhelming and intense in some moments, connected and inspiring in others.

We sat around at Gurudwara Bangla Sahib and talked politics with a Sikh leader and chatted with a group of middle school girls eager to practice their English with Americans. We came within feet of the Dalai Lama and felt the power of his compassion wash over the crowd of people awaiting his teaching. We met amazing person after amazing person.

I absolutely loved it.

I know many of you are eagerly awaiting photos from me and I promise that I am ON it. I am back in my office and plugging away at the pages-long to-do list that I left behind. But I ask your patience just a little longer and feel compelled to just put it out there that emailing me six times a day will not, in fact, speed up my process. Well intentioned, I know, but still not particularly helpful. Deep breaths…your photos are coming! And I am as eager as you are to share them with you!

Thank you for being patient!!
