Excuse me for a moment while I wipe the drool from my chin…I am IN LOVE with this album!!!! From the robin’s egg blue Japanese bookbinding fabric to the Swiss ribbon to the fact that it weighs as much as I do (I am a firm believer in wedding albums having a bit of heft to them!)…there is nothing about this handcrafted album that I am not obsessed with at the moment!!

It all began when I opened the shipping box and dug through the careful packing materials to find this (yes, the tag is a little letter-pressed copy of what is imprinted on the presentation box! Love!) :

It took me a little while to get around to unwrapping it…I am such a sucker for gorgeous packaging and the album sort of “had me at hello,” you know? But it was worth unwrapping to get to what was underneath! All Cypress albums come in a coordinating presentation box which serves the dual functions of looking gorgeous AND protecting your album from dust and moisture!

You may remember Ali + Cesar’s Biddeford Pool wedding, complete with it’s ice cream truck! If you’d like to see more of the 12×12 layout, let me know!

I love the idea of matching guestbooks and albums…it just seems like such a great way to revisit the day on TWO levels: reading the thoughtful comments of your guests (not to mention a great way to use engagement photos!) AND walking back through the images of your day!

Gorgeous!!! For more information about album options, send me an e-mail- I’d love to chat!

I’ve had several clients recently ask me for some ideas about how to best keep and display their images. It’s been just the kick in the butt I needed to motivate me to write a few posts about exactly that!! I think that one of the biggest drawbacks to digital photography (maybe the only drawback?) is how easy it is to take a million photos and then just let them live on your computer until you forget that you even have them! I see this in my own life with my personal photos! I recently ran across about 300 photos I took when Justin and I went to visit my Dad in Seattle last year…photos of us with my Dad, sightseeing in downtown Seattle, hiking in Mt. Rainier National Park…all sitting untouched on a hard drive! And I wish I could say that was a one-time thing! While it seems less likely that people would do that with images from important events like their wedding, life has a way on creeping up on our best intentions and there those images sit while we take care of higher priorities on our to-do lists (you know, like grocery shopping!!)!

I want my clients to have their digital files…it was your wedding after all! But I also really want you to enjoy them!! And I think that begins with having hard copies in some form! While I am tempted to launch into the million and one reasons I think albums are priceless, I want to save that for another post and begin at the beginning….your engagement photos!!

I include an engagement session with every wedding for several really important reasons (again, another post!). While everyone is thrilled to have some great images of themselves as a couple, the question of what to do with them tends to come up first following that session. Which is where a guestbook comes in!!

Traditionally, guestbooks were little bound books filled with lined pages where your wedding guests could scribble their names and you would be left with a mostly blank notebook with a list of names that you would then put on a bookshelf never to open again! Nowadays, couples are getting SO creative and I’ve seen everything from thumbprint trees to photo mats to, most recently, an electric guitar!! I love love LOVE that couples are seeking to not only engage their guests a little more (no stiff signatures here!), but also looking for ways to create a “guestbook” that they will look at and enjoy and that will help them remember the incredible love and support that poured out from their family and friends on their wedding day!

So why not combine a treasury of your favorite engagement images with the messages of love from your guests? There are SO many options for creating your perfect guestbook and it guarantees that neither your engagement photos nor your guests’ well wishes will end up collecting dust on the bookshelf!

Happy Thursday!!

I am hard at work getting Julie + Sean’s reception post together, but I wanted to share this super-thoughtful thank you that I received from Louie and Mary Elisa this weekend at their fabulous rock-n-roll wedding! Everyone who knows me well also knows that I pull out the complete works of Jane Austen every single fall and read them one right after another, beginning with my grandmother’s favorite, Pride and Prejudice, and finishing up with Mansfield Park. Say what you want…it’s just not fall without Jane! I have several copies of each novel in various stages of wear and tear and can quote much of them easily by heart!

So you can imagine how utterly surprised and absolutely delighted I was to open this unexpected gift from Louie and Mary Elisa to find these gorgeous handmade items by Brookish! I immediately recognized the quote as Mr. Darcy’s initial proposal to Lizzy…in my opinion one of the most riveting scenes in all of literature (and-also my humble opinion- done spectacularly in the 2005 movie version of the novel!)!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Louie & Mary Elisa!! I am so excited to enter my 16th annual Jane Austen book marathon sipping a steaming “cuppa” tea from a mug bearing Darcy’s famous words!! I hope you are having a ball in Jamaica!!!
